So it&#8217;s important to keep your house puppy-proof in order to keep them safe. Get your house ready for your new member of the family<\/p>\n<p>Remember \u2013 Puppies love to chew!\u00a0 Always provide a safe chewing toy for your puppy so that it will help him to learn to play with safe, healthy toys. Chewing toys will also keep their teeth clean, keep their curious minds occupied, and provide chewing exercise which will tire them out.<\/p>\n<h5>Indoors<strong> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/happypetsinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/happy-pets-blog-puppy-digging-in-flower-pot.jpg?ssl=1\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-128\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-128\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/happypetsinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/happy-pets-blog-puppy-digging-in-flower-pot.jpg?resize=245%2C240&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"happy pets blog puppy digging in flower pot\" width=\"245\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/happypetsinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/happy-pets-blog-puppy-digging-in-flower-pot.jpg?resize=300%2C294&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/happypetsinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/happy-pets-blog-puppy-digging-in-flower-pot.jpg?w=564&amp;ssl=1 564w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 245px) 100vw, 245px\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Electrical cords \u2013 Keep cords out of reach if possible, or purchase cord wraps or protectors.\u00a0 A good idea is to coat them with Bitter Apple Spray. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.petsmart.com\/dog\/skin-coat-care\/grannicks-bitter-apple-spray-zid36-13628\/cat-36-catid-100057\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Grannicks Bitter Apple Original Dog Spray<\/em><\/a> is reviewed to be very effective and is available on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.petsmart.com\/dog\/skin-coat-care\/grannicks-bitter-apple-spray-zid36-13628\/cat-36-catid-100057\" target=\"_blank\">Petsmart.com<\/a>\u00a0 or\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/chewy.com\" target=\"_blank\">Chewy.com<\/a>.\u00a0 It is very important to keep your puppy away from all electrical cords for obvious reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Medications, poisons, and household cleaners \u2013 Keep all medications and household cleaners in a safe area, away from your puppy.\u00a0 Avoid using automatic toilet bowl cleaners if you can\u2019t keep your big puppy from drinking out of the toilet.\u00a0 It\u2019s best to avoid that bad habit from forming, if possible!<\/p>\n<p>Indoor plants\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 Some of the common <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">indoor plants toxic to dogs<\/span> are philodendron, dieffenbachia, aloe, and snake plant.<\/p>\n<p>Windows, doors, and stairs &#8211; Keep windows and doors securely closed and ensure that window screens are secure.\u00a0\u00a0 Use a pet gate to block off any stairs that may pose a hazard to a young puppy.<\/p>\n<p>Small items and breakables \u2013 Keep valuable items that can easily be broken by a playful puppy out of their reach. Jewelry, small items, and coins can be easily swallowed by curious <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">puppies<\/span>, so keep them out of reach, as well.\u00a0 Also, keep socks, nylons, underwear, and other clothing put away.\u00a0 Any of these can be chewed and swallowed by a curious pup.<\/p>\n<p>Fire and heat sources \u2013 Screen off fireplaces and wood stoves, and never leave your puppy unattended in a room with any type of open flame or space heater.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/happypetsinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/happy-pets-blog-dog-with-lipstick.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-371\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/happypetsinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/happy-pets-blog-dog-with-lipstick.jpg?resize=175%2C224&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"happy pets blog dog with lipstick\" width=\"175\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/happypetsinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/happy-pets-blog-dog-with-lipstick.jpg?resize=234%2C300&amp;ssl=1 234w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/happypetsinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/happy-pets-blog-dog-with-lipstick.jpg?w=564&amp;ssl=1 564w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 175px) 100vw, 175px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h5>Outdoors<\/h5>\n<p>Dangerous areas \u2013 Walk around your yard and look for areas or items that could be hazardous to your puppy.\u00a0 Sharp objects, broken glass, exposed nails, and small items that he may chew or eat should be removed.<\/p>\n<p>Plants and shrubs \u2013 Some plants are toxic to dogs, and common ones include morning glory, foxglove, lily of the valley, boxwood shrubs, bulb plants like daffodil and tulips, peony, mums, and vinca.\u00a0 Remove these plants or do not plant them where your puppy can reach them.<\/p>\n<p>Poisons or toxins \u2013 Be sure that all gasoline, oil, paints, lawn fertilizers, insecticides, and auto supplies (antifreeze) are in secure containers and placed out of reach.\u00a0 Any of these could be deadly if ingested by a puppy.<\/p>\n<p>Garbage and compost piles \u2013 Ensure that garbage is kept in a securely closed container, and keep compost n a secure bin and out of the puppy\u2019s reach.<\/p>\n<p>Gardens &#8211; Fence off your garden if you are using fertilizers and insecticides, or if you are growing plants that are toxic to the puppy. \u00a0Some <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">toxic plants<\/span> are corn plant, onion, parsley, rhubarb, sweet potato, apples, peaches, plums, and cherries.<\/p>\n<p>Mulches and ornamental rocks \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avma.org\/News\/JAVMANews\/Pages\/060601b.aspx\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Cocoa bean mulch<\/span><\/a> is toxic to dogs!!\u00a0 The same substances found in chocolate, \u00a0which are theobromine and caffeine, are found in cocoa bean mulch.
